With Layoffs looming ESPN still defiant

I used to be a big NFL fan despite detesting the idiot announcers, you would think in this modern age on screen graphics would suffice for displaying stats of game.
What finally threw me over the edge was their insistence that I would be interested in their views on anything other than the sport. That's why I never bothered with ESPN.

Well it seems a lot of people have decided not to bother with ESPN, it used to be that you had to pay for that channel whether you liked it or not. But not anymore and it seems that more than a few people have opted for alternatives that leaves them in the dust.

Consequently ESPN has had to trim the budget and like most businesses that means someone's gotta go.

ESPN bloodbath begins with 100 layoffs

Now personally I couldn't care less about ESPN's layoffs cause I didn't watch it but some people who are sick of the pontificating and angry that they didn't get what they were paying for are kind of happy that ESPN is starting to reap what they have sown.
It isn't going down to well with the SJW contingent of the sports media.

He shouldn't be worried through cause ESPN has no intention to change and will continue to pander to social groups who couldn't give a shit about sports but are fanatical about "social justice".

Like it or not, ESPN isn't sticking to sports
“Hey, ESPN: Stick to sports.”

I’ve read thousands of social media posts and reader emails about ESPN over the past 15 months. If there’s one phrase that tends to surface most frequently, it’s that chestnut suggesting the network’s only proper place is in the athletics lane.

Yes, when it comes to ESPN -- the self-proclaimed “Worldwide Leader in Sports” -- the concern of many fans is that it’s no longer focused enough on sports. Some complain too much focus has been placed on culture and politics, with the most fire directed at FiveThirtyEight, The Undefeated, the new SC6 show and even one of the network’s graybeards, Outside the Lines, the title of which describes exactly the coverage some would like to see less of.

As I wrote in November, the desire to draw a boundary between sports, culture and politics is a fool’s errand. Sports has always intersected with culture and politics. It isn’t a recent phenomenon; it’s been true for more than a century. If you don’t believe that, search the names Jack Johnson, Jim Thorpe, Babe Didrikson Zaharias or Moses Fleetwood Walker. (OK, I helped you out there).

ESPN, in fact, just removed any question about the sports-politics-culture intersection when it released new political guidelines that loosen the restraints on commentary about politics and culture, though stressing that such discussion should connect to sports whenever possible.~snip~
So crippling the franchise doesn't seem to be enough,
Maybe some of the big time execs will get hit with a clue bat before ESPN is dead and buried but I really doubt it.
Social Justice requires absolute obedience to the grave.

I just can't get enough of Hillary losing

I gotta confess that I found Hillary losing to Donald Trump to be amazingly satisfying.
What I'm not surprised by is her or the democrats utter failure to recognize the reasons why.

The Other McCain has a post up where they talk about the disconnect that the party has with voters.

How Bad Was the Hillary Campaign?
Matt Taibbi is certainly not my favorite political journalist, and Rolling Stone was permanently disgraced by the UVA hoax, but nevertheless Taibbi’s brief review of the new Clinton campaign book, Shattered by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, is very worthwhile reading. After recounting the comedic failure of Clinton insiders to figure out their campaign’s raison d’etre — why did Hillary want to be president? — Taibbi summarizes the problem briefly and accurately:~snip~
The interesting thing is that they also discuss why the republican party has the same problem with completely ignoring the concerns of voters.
There's a particularly odious little RINO on facebook that I've had some interaction with who personifies the RINO cuckservative mindset perfectly.
He proclaims himself to be the "bestest" conservative ever and then proceeds to tell everyone how stupid they are if they don't agree with him.
He really doesn't understand how Trump could have bested the entire field of pompous elitist republican weasels even while Trump knocked em off one by one. Voters responded to Trump speaking about the rule of law, border security, bloated government, unemployment and crappy trade agreements that disadvantaged American workers.
Even after that the remaining candidates couldn't even alter their positions enough to appeal to the voters.
So they fell off one by one until Trump got the nomination.

Both political parties suffer from a severe case of aloofness and instead of wanting to appeal to voters on what concerns them they want to tell us "who we are".

Pretty piss poor strategy for someone who wants the popular vote if you ask me. We tried it their way for about 2 decades and it didn't work so now it's time to try something new.

You gotta wonder if they have learned their lesson yet, that they are supposed to represent us, not dictate to us.
I guess we'll see.

Consequences of Caitllyns surgery

There's some things that are just a bridge too far.

Report: Caitlyn Jenner Plans Nude Photo Shoot after Gender Reassignment Surgery
Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly planning to bare it all in a nude photo shoot after undergoing gender reassignment surgery earlier this year.
According to the Daily Mail, Jenner’s son Brody Jenner says the former Olympian’s forthcoming photo shoot has infuriated the Kardashian clan.

“Brody told them that Caitlyn has planned and booked a full nude photo shoot and they were like, that’s unacceptable, it’s taking things too far,” a source told the Mail.

“They’re hoping the shoot doesn’t come to pass because that would be their worst nightmare,” the source added. “Taking it to that level and unveiling her [new body] with a fully naked photo spread is going way too far.”~snip~
I suppose there's people out there who wonder how it went, personally I'd be fine if he just told us.
I also don't know of a lot of guys who do google searches for 67 year old nudes.
One things for sure, the Kardashians don't seem to be to keen on the idea and to tell you the truth I'm not sure how I'd feel about seeing my 67 year old dad in a nude photo shoot.
Sex reassignment or not.
Maybe it's the same urge people have when get new stuff, they want to take it out and show it off.
Me? I think I'll let this one go by, there's other things I rather see before I die.

Meme Dump 4/19/2017

Here's a little help for those who use these things.

Punctuation matters in the first one.

For the armchair commando.

A little history.

No more Bill O’Reilly on Fox News

Love him or hate him you can't deny that he had tremendous ratings during his stint at Fox.

Bill O’Reilly Reportedly Out at Fox News
Fox News has reportedly decided to part ways with Bill O’Reilly. The news was reported by Gabriel Sherman in New York Magazine on Wednesday.

If confirmed, the top-rated cable news host’s departure will leave an enormous hole not just in the Fox News lineup, but in the entire cable news landscape. The former CBS News reporter and host of Inside Edition is truly the progenitor of the “opiniotainment” host that we now see as the standard.

Ever since a New York Times report came out that revealed $13 million Fox news spent settling multiple accusations of sexual harassment against O’Reilly, he has been in a swirl of controversy. The report led to a swift and successful advertiser boycott that included dozens of national advertisers, a suddenly announced vacation, and now, the end of Mr. O’Reilly’s career on Fox News.~snip~
There's plenty of coverage out there about his alleged sins and the subsequent boycott by advertises.
A lot of people are going to miss his show, I mean you don't make it in the top tier of ratings unless you have a loyal audience.
But truth be told I'm kind of ambivalent about it, I liked watching his show when I had cable, but I kind of feel like too many Americans have become dependent of the pundit class to parse opinions from the news for themselves.
Opinions are the kinds of things we should be able to form for ourselves if given objective and balanced information.

Probably not much chance of that happening but in case it does we need to be ready.

Deceptions....deceptions.....

The legacy liberal media has gone from reporting to out and out deception. That seems to be modern journalism.
It didn't end after their constant cheerleading for Hillary for months before the last election. In a way Trump has the media to thank for winning the presidency. It's finally gotten to the point that if people see the media against it then it must be alright.

Anyway we got a couple of things that came up today that illustrates perfectly how the media distorts things.
First off we got this:

DHS: USA Today Got Its Big Scoop On Deported ‘DREAMer’ Totally Wrong
USA Today reported Tuesday that an illegal immigrant protected by Barack Obama’s amnesty was deported in February after spending an evening with his girlfriend. However, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman told The Daily Caller that this story is false because Juan Manuel Montes Bojorquez did not receive amnesty and was caught climbing over a border fence when he was detained.
Thing is that now that someone has printed the truth about their "story" it won't really matter cause their circulation is larger. Don't expect USA Today to correct this lie.

then we got this little gem:

AP Changes Fresno Shooter’s Words From ‘Allahu Akbar,’ Removes Islam Reference
The suspect, 39-year-old Kori Ali Muhammad, holds fervent anti-Trump beliefs according to his social media profile, and he told police afterward that he hates white people.

Rather than reporting the gunman’s literal words, however, the AP reported the gunman as saying “God is great.”
As if "translating" the words for us would mitigate the fact that it was a lone wolf Muslim that attacked and killed 3 people.

Modern news is no longer about reporting the facts, it's about decieving and manipulating us, grown adults, like we're children.

Too Soon?

I don't know about anyone else but, over the years, normally when advertisers for large corporations latch onto a fad or something it normally means the fad is over.
So maybe this means Trump protests are going the way of the Pet Rock.

Unexpected Thrill

How much is to much adrenaline when looking for a thrill ride?

SEE IT: Terrifying footage shows girl dangling by her feet on ride after harness malfunctions at Paris fair
A day at the fair almost turned deadly after a ride malfunctioned leaving a teenage girl dangling upside down by her feet.

Local news outlets reported that the terrifying incident happened Sunday on the Adrenaline, a ride similar to a giant swing, at the annual Paris carnival Foire du Trone.

In video posted online, a man who appears to work at the fair is seen giving the thumbs up sign as the swing drops sending two riders flying into the air.

It's quickly realized that something is wrong with the machine as one of the riders is seen hanging upside down with her feet tangled in the harness.~snip~
As always be careful what you wish for.

RIP Don Rickles

This is sad but probably not unexpected.

Don Rickles is dead at 90
Legendary insult comic Don Rickles died early Thursday in California, his publicist said.

The 90-year-old comedy icon had been in failing health and recently canceled a May 6 show at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa. The cause of death was kidney failure, his publicist said.

The salty-tongued funnyman was a favorite on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.” But young fans also knew him as Mr. Potato Head on “Toy Story.”
I wouldn't be considered a huge "fan" of Mr. Rickles but as I was growing up he seemed to be everywhere on TV.
He was funny at times and good for a laugh and kind of unique, I really can't think of anyone who had a schtick quite like his.
RIP

Boss films falling maid

Yeah this kind of puts a new perspective on "horrible bosses".

Maid plunged 7 stories as her boss filmed the whole thing
A terrified maid pleaded for help as she dangled from a seven-story building, but her employer just filmed as she lost her grip and plummeted below, the shocking footage shows.

The Ethiopian worker, who survived the fall with just a broken arm, claims she was fleeing someone trying to kill her inside the apartment in Kuwait.

“The lady put me in the bathroom and was about to kill me in the bathroom without anybody finding out, she would have thrown my body out like rubbish, so instead of staying there I went to save myself and then I fell,” she said, according to local media reports.

The footage shows the maid gripping to the balcony and crying, “Hold me, hold me,” but her Kuwaiti boss just replies, “Crazy, come,” before the woman’s hand slips and she falls, landing on a metal awning not far from the ground.~snip~
This happened in Kuwait, somehow that doesn't surprise me at all.

On the rules of marriage

This is probably one of the dumbest controversies out there, there are a few that are dumber but this one ranks right up there.

Mike Pence doesn’t dine alone with other women. And we’re all shocked.
~Many on the right quickly interpreted the tweet as the media somehow being shocked — shocked! — that a conservative Christian couple would establish such boundaries. Yet again, it seemed, here was the East Coast liberal media just not understanding the values of middle America.

On the left, meanwhile, the Pences' arrangement was one that reeked of sexism and a bygone era — an impractical code in the modern age of men and women working alongside one another. And how could the vice president of the United States not be trusted to dine alone or attend parties with women without it venturing into unholy territory? Some even wondered (perhaps seriously?) whether this would prevent him from meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May or German Chancellor Angela Merkel.~snip~
I have no idea why this is controversial or shocking to anyone and why everyone thinks this would be confined only to Christian couples.
I can say from my own experience that, before my wife passed away, we not only loved each other but we also liked each other. I mean, after all, we chose to be together for better or worse and I gotta tell you.....sorry ladies...but I preferred her company over anyone else's.

If a womans opportunity for career advancement hinges on one on one dinners after hours with a married boss then I would think she is doing it wrong.

Dining out is supposed to be an enjoyable experience and Pence believes that having his wife present makes it more so. I don't blame him.

He's not the one with the problem, the people that are "shocked" are.

Medal of Honor recipients vs Sen. Blumenthal

I don't think I need to add to much to this, just that politicians need to look at themselves a little more closely before casting doubts on others.
Also it seems like, for democrats mostly, that nothing is out of bounds when it comes to getting elected.

An open letter from 14 Medal of Honor recipients to Sen. Blumenthal over his hypocrisy on Gorsuch
Dear Sen. Richard Blumenthal,

You recently called upon your Senate colleagues to subject Judge Neil Gorsuch's record to "extreme vetting," questioning both his qualification and biography. The Senate certainly has the right and obligation to closely review any nominee for the United States Supreme Court. Conversely, it is our right as Americans and veterans to scrutinize your hypocrisy in doing so.

We are veterans of the Vietnam War. We fought alongside our brothers in arms, many of whom died or were gravely injured there. We saw the treatment meted out on us and our fellow military personnel upon our return, yet we never questioned our commitment to our nation's freedom. But perhaps more relevant to this discussion is that we know you were not there with us.~snip~
